I got these Spotty Frog / Lunch Punch Sandwich Cutters to review. I got two sets, but hop on to the website and there are transport and puzzle ones too. They're about two hundred rands for a set of four and delivery lead time is one week.
These are really sweet and quirky, but they're not for your every day sandwich. I tried to make some with chicken mayo, and the bread broke and lost shape and stickiness. You can't use these for sandwiches that have like pickles, roast beef, lettuce or anything like that. They work best with smooth ingredients like peanut butter and mashed banana, jams, grated cheese, spreads etc.
You really do lose a lot of bread in the cutting, which freaks me out a bit. Also, you have to use the bigger breads like Albany wholewheat / best of both. You can't use these with your toaster loafs or Sasko or rye or breads like those - otherwise you get bits of colored crust and cut offs.
I think that they're really cool, I'm keeping a set for fun lunches and breakfasts and having friends over, but I like BIG sandwiches with lettuce and tomatoes and rocket and pickles and sundried tomato, roast chicken, roast beef. When I use these cutters for the boys, I would definitely do a little salad or fresh veggies on the side to compensate for the lack of fresh ingredients / produce.
They do cut very easily, and they are very cute. You need to just experiment a bit. It's cool to be more creative when making lunches, and if I hadn't got these to review I would have bought a set anyway. They're adorable. Check out their Facebook page to see the other sets and you can mail info@spottyfrog.co.za to order.
With this one you can see that the bread is breaking a bit as the stretch is a bit too much for the cutters |
These are peanut butter and fresh berries sandwiches, you can see on the left how that guy on the plate has lost shape |
This sandwich was just butter and peanut butter. You have to keep it thin and plain, then add the freshness on the side |
Noah LOVES the puppy in the dog house one, also the mommy elephant with baby elephant. |
