Sunday (today) is Graeme's birthday. He has been properly spoiled, which makes my heart bunny happy. The lucky fella got... Wait, what am I doing. GUYS!!!! I cut my hair. Well, not me but the team over at ghd treated me something ridiculous with a professional styler, gift set and an in-salon session to learn a few tricks and things. While I was there I was like JUST CUT IT OFF CUT IT OFF NOW DOOO EEEEET. So they did because they were scared. My bum's been itching (what?) to chop a bob for years. I love it - I always had chinese bobs as a kid, and it really suits me I think? I look at pictures of my long hair now and I'm like LAME Tash. Look how boring your hair was Tash.
Anyway enough about me. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MY HAIR? I'm very shoutey caps today because its just been such a great weekend. You know when you're all set for a regular, non eventful weekend and then the crazy fun just slaps you in the face and is like "YOU. You're going to have fun now. PAY ATTENTION." Anyway it was one of those weekends. New hair also meant LOTS of selfies and double-taking myself at mirrors. Bobs are fun and bouncy and I feel like I should be playing hop-scotch or marbles or something. Swap you five milkies for a goonie?
It was so sunny on Saturday. Paul and Graeme left for boxing and training and coffee for "We'll be back in an hour" and I was like "whatever you'll be back in an hour" to myself. No actually: to them. LOUDLY and sulkily. I get really anxious when I'm left alone with the boys sometimes. That overwhelming new mother feeling all over again. I pulled their old splash pool and slide out, their camping chairs, tubes and pool noodles and we totally had a little pool party in the courtyard. It was SO MUCH FUN. They were so excited the just sommer took off their clothes while I was filling up the pool and danced around in their underpants the crazy kids. Raised by wolves I tell you.
On Sunday it was (is) Graeme's birthday, and instead of having a crazy ALL OUR FRIENDS AND BRAAI AND PARTY mission he wanted to have a Sunday lunch at home with just family which was pretty spectacular. For him.
Me? I slow-roasted lamb shanks in red wine gravy for four hours (fine my mom pretty much did it), made a salad (ALL me), mash, (Graeme helped. Not much) cocktails, watched kids, cleaned up, did three loads of dishes, ran to shops twice, bathed the boys, packed school bags, got boys to bed, cleaned again and ate too much cake. It was an aweeeeesome day and he loved it. He got spoiled something rabbits with a whole new summer wardrobe, sneakers, backpack, vouchers, tool boxes and other shoes and things.
We had a nice (little bit windy) afternoon chatting in the garden, playing with the boys, sipping cocktails and riding Kat's bike around the neighborhood. We had ice cream cones and granny Annie baked the most delicious chocolate cake, same as she used to when Graeme was a little boy. Very special! She is officially the family cake-baker for every occasion (like Tuesdays or the-sky-is-blue days).
It was a really fun day and I'm glad that EVERYONE ELSE had fun. Kidding - I did have fun eventually. I get in to a little state when there are so many people visiting. I go in to Martha-MONSTER-Stewart mode and like want to kill people. I am not a graceful hostess. Please don't come over.
Oh, Benjamin fell like, seven times this weekend. I haven't told you how clumsy he is. I am genuinely surprised that he is able to function in life at all. This weekend he also fell / pulled an INDUSTRIAL trolley on top of himself at Builder's Warehouse. Pot plants and soil everywhere - on his face, with snot, in his mouth and nose, a trolley ON TOP of him, his face cut open a bit, his nose raw and bleeding. He recovered in about one and a half minutes as if nothing happened. Noah? A mosquito bites him and he demands antihistamine lotion, a 40 minute back-scratch and a psychologist. I am not exaggerating.
I hope that everyone had a super fun weekend. I've been a bit moody and tired lately - its all this full moon business. It takes me two naps, a glass of wine and a funny cat video to get a smile on my face some afternoons. Maybe its just change of seasons or the dread of alllll the things I need to get done before the end of the year. Really, there is so much coming up and more birthdays, trips, anniversaries, pitches, holidays, Christmas shopping, financial planning, workshops... I need a nap again. Really. Also, the boys passed out at 6:30pm and I am TERRIFIED that they'll wake up wide awake at like 9:30pm. Ben just made a noise in his sleep and I almost started crying. I love you boys to the STARS but some weekends I struggle to keep up with you. And some mornings. And evenings. I love you my little heartbeats! Happy birthday daddy Graeme. Hope your day was as magical as you are!

Your garden is looking too beautiful! I'm coming for cocktails NOW! :)
