Francoise Hardy, pretending to be French and other related obsessions.

Beautiful, isn't she? I mentioned online (somewhere) that I've been working out our family tree with my mom. I don't know why I didn't know, but so many many of my erm - ancestors were French on both my mom and my dad's side. Remember I got that shocker when I went to Franschoek (meaning French Corner as that's where the  French originally settled and established South Africa's wine farms) and stumbled in to the Huguenot Museum and my family name was all over the place, including the model ship that Jean Pier Du Plessis and his family arrived in. Then, on my mother's side is the Rousseau side. So that's like - Huguenots on both sides man. So now I am pretending that I'm French and obsessing over Francoise Hardy and her beautiful music. You'll recognize her songs - loads have been used in mainstream movies. I'll get around to getting the whole family tree together so I can sort of work out percentage wise just how French I am.

How much do you know about your family tree? Its good to know where you came from - it sort of changes your perspective on things a bit. I mean, you may find that you are like 17% Italian and I mean, that is a big deal - that is more than enough reason to eat more pasta and pizza because your ROOTS told you to - you know?

Sometimes when I squint my eyes and tilt my head almost upside down, I like to pretend that I look a little bit French now and that I am actually Francoise Hardy RIGHT now and that I can speak French and that I've actually ever been overseas in my life (I haven't). And while I was so stuck on where to go for my first ever 'international' travel experience, please know that my little compass is very eagerly pointing towards France right now. I don't know anything about any of this, or going overseas or Visas or even how much a flight costs. I mean it could take 10 hours or 25 hours to get there - I have absolutely no idea. Eventually, if I do ever find my lucky bum there - I'll be running up to anyone that looks like me and take loads of embarrassing and awkward selfies with them for you. You know, for research purposes.
