I can't actually contain my extreme and overwhelming excitement over this project. I'm always telling the boys weird little stories in the dark, so putting it to paper and bringing the characters to life has been absolutely incredible. Having my target audience at hand is particularly special. I got these scamps and character development in from Theodore Key today - my favorite illustrator and the creative behind allll the Raising Men and The Birdhouse artwork. This man is fantastic, talented and wonderful.
Such a warm thank you to every person that gave me names, advice, sent links, phone numbers, comments and emails. Again, I have no idea how to do any of this professionally, and your input has given me buckets of confidence. I thank you in the most sincere and warmest way.
I showed the boys the drawings of Buttons and Honey as soon as I got them today. My heart popped like a mouthful of bubblegum bubbles and I *knew* that this was 'them' - exactly how I had imagined them to be. Noah took one look and smiled his little shy smile. "Mommy, he lost his shirt" "Bunnies don't wear shirts" "I like her ribbon and I like blue" and he laughed and said they were silly and I knew. Ben saw the pictures and went "BUT WHERE IS THE FOREST?" so he knew exactly who these little rabbits are. They're the bunnies from all my silly made up stories. They knew - they both just knew.
I know that my stories are good, not because any authors of professors of literature told me, but because my boys love them. And whatever happens here, I WILL print these stories myself - even via photo or portfolio books and I will keep them for my children and theirs, and theirs and always.
So here is the beginning of everything and generations of bedtime fun and silliness to come. Thank you Theo for being so perfect. I already have more characters and more stories that I've thought about in the dark and early nights.
I hope that you like Buttons and Honey and that you'll grow to love them as much as I do - as much as the boys do. I'm no Julia Donaldson, but these are my first stories and they're so sentimental.

LOVE. GIVE ME MORE.
