Someone shared this link online the other day and I acted swiftly. I ordered two craft boxes for the boys: Ocean Adventure and Insects. They arrived about two days later. I showed the boys, which was a huge mistake and fail on my part. They went a little bit crazy and I had to take the boxes away because they literally went insane with excitement and then severe disappointment as I explained that mommy has to help with these toys and that we'll do them together a BIT later (not during suicide hour while I'm making dinner, unpacking school bags, getting their bath ready and making lunch boxes)
See, I suck at crafts. Really, I am not good at any of these things and can really only draw a stick man myself. When I do 'crafts' with the boys, I buy a packet of stickers and some colored paper and tell them to have fun. It all ends up in the dustbin and entertains them for maybe 7 minutes. I get frustrated because Noah watches Mr Maker on YouTube every day and is obsessed. He loves Mr Maker (show about dude that makes crafts in 30 seconds - fake ice creams, cakes, things...) and I feel so completely useless because all I know how to do is draw a face on a paper plate. I've got NO tricks.
Thing is, I know that the boys really enjoy doing these things and mostly - spending time with me. While I'm not very good at playing with their cars and dinosaurs, I do crave more activities for us to do together with a result to teach them all those little life lessons about creativity, reward and perseverance - right?
These craft boxes come with every single item you need to make three cool things per box. Everything. Mini pots of glue, a paint brush, enough paint, stensils, string, googly eyes - everything. Then you get beautiful little instruction cards and everything is individually wrapped with the most beautiful Ben and Bee packaging. The boxes are also sealed with gorgeous washy tape. So much love and hand made-ness went in to this.
I'm going to take photos of the cool things that the boys and I make tomorrow - their first day of holiday. I'm really looking forward to this - sort of like having a recipe for the first time. I just wanted to tell you about this quick - and hop over here to order, see other box options, subscriptions, prices and the Christmas craft boxes that are also beautiful. Have fun! Please share with other parents, or if you have nannies etc during the holidays - this is a great bonding activity for them to do with your kids too!
I'll try contact and get more information from the creators of Ben and Bee in the interim - but really, I am jealous that this wasn't my idea.
