Falling down the rabbit hole and other things. Also, far too many bunnies.

This was probably the best worst Easter that I've had. Noah spent half the weekend with daddy, and Benjamin and I did some shopping, cleaning, cooking, crafts – regular house things. We ate a lot of chocolate and spent a lot of time in bed watching movies about dragons (Ben’s latest obsession - mine too!)

Easter celebrations were very touch-and-go. I was sure I wouldn't have enough mama rabbit left in me to pull things together. Bunny and I did a few crafts, made some food and I spent a lot of time cleaning items that were already clean – forgetting where I’d put things, making lists and staring at walls. Everything felt so out of place this weekend. I'm not in a good place right now, to be honest.

This is a mini personal post, because I’m a personal person, full of emotion and a beating heart. I’m not going to try to sell you on how great things are all the time, because they’re not. Right now things are very up and down, but mostly down. I hope to pull myself out of this rabbit hole in no time. Eventually.

Boys:  By around three pm on Easter Sunday you were watching a movie in your room. I went in to stealth, sniper mode, ricocheting between my cupboard and the garden –carrying only a few eggs at a time. I was TERRIFIED that you’d bust me, but you were glued to The Bee Movie like the world’s honey depended on it.

I knocked on the front door then ran to the lounge. “Guys, did you hear anything??? Someone was at the door…” You stumbled down the passage and made your way to the garden, full of curiosity. I’d just spent twenty minutes convincing you that the Easter bunny was probably maybe not coming anymore. Noah your face lit up like like a poly-board on a sunny day. “He CAME, he CAME!!! I TOLD you mommy!” You spent a good while in our tiny garden looking for Easter treats. I’d hid some in the bunny house, under cushions, in the herbs and around sneaky corners. You loved every single second of discovery. “A bunny, ANOTHER bunny, an egg, there are so MANY!” Benjamin you were just like “OMG there is chocolate all. over. the garden – WHY!” Man it was fun to watch you. Noah you were much faster than Benjamin, and I love that you stopped and left some for him to find too. You only took one of each thing and let him find 'his' one. I was so proud of you big little.

Benjamin at this point you really just wanted answers. WHY is there chocolate all over the garden mommy?

Nuns I could barely get a picture of you as you were just darting between the garden and your basket like a crazy kid

We’d made bunny bunting, bunny plates and bran muffins earlier. I figured if we’re going to be eating chocolate for three days straight, then fiber was definitely the way to go. We put your Peter Rabbit bunting up, put some music on and had a really fun afternoon in the end, just the three of us. Then we wrote letters to the Easter bunny to say thank you, and cuddled in to mommy’s bed with your stash, some tea and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” – which you love.

The rest of the weekend was filled with shopping for winter essentials, trips to Spur and quick visits from Gaga, Lester, Mark, Auntie Claire and Dylan. Your favorite book right now is The Rhyming Rabbit, but I finally got you The Gruffalo, which we all love. My dearest children’s authors are definitely Julia Donaldson, Beatrix Potter and Richard Scarry. Ben you got a new stuffed bunny that you've named Peter. I got a photo of you taking a photo of him, and it makes my heart do jumping jacks when I look at it.

We went to see The Tale of Peter Rabbit at the Artscape on Saturday morning and you loved your very first theatre experience. Noah you were completely enthralled, you didn’t say one word or move a limb during the entire show. I think you were terrified of Mr McGregor and consumed by the theatrics in general.  It was so special to watch you enjoy something that much. Benjamin you’ve become such a pensive little guy, but you didn’t take your eyes off the stage once. You spent a LOT of time frowning at Peter Rabbit in disagreement because “ he is so naughty mommy”. You guys really, really loved it.

Thank you for bringing so much joy to the Raising Men home. You guys fill my heart with happy bunny hops, and I love you. I promise to catch the White Rabbit in good time, for good, for you.

I've created a little Raising Men Facebook Page, please go like it. I'll be doing loads of updates & giveaways there as I try to keep that stuff off my blog, but I still want to spoil my readers. Click here: Raising Men on the Facebook
