It's almost Easter weekend and I am beyond giddy. If you've known me or read my blog for more than five minutes, you know that I love bunnies. My rabbits, your rabbits - we're all friends. The whole weekend is planned with crafts, food, hunts, bunnies and productions --> what? Daddy got us all tickets to The Tale of Peter Rabbit at the Artscape Theatre! Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail in real life. I have been threatening the boys with Mr McGregor for at least two years and they will finally see that he is 'real' (and that he really will come if the boys don't go to bed / finish veggies / stop smacking and snatching. I've got it all worked out folks. In all bunny-ness (seriousness), they have never been to theatre or a live show of any sorts, so I am FRIGGIN DYING OF EXCITEMENT ---> even used caps lock. It's that serious.
So I've been doing loads of research and stealing from Pinterest (you guys think I made all this cool stuff up? I don't even know who these Pinterest people are with their perfect houses, wardrobes, DIY, styled meals and from what I can gather, cross-stitch-sewing-knitting-how-ever-you-do-that skills. Who needs the Jones' anymore, right?) and I'd thought I'd share some gorgeous things with you that I'm going to attempt to attempt this weekend. All of these are really easy to make and most of it references back to this website crammed with 23 Easter-related FREE PRINTABLES and this one is also really simple to make bunting and things with. This is the link to the printable, free bunny-mask which I'm sort of definitely doing. Most of all, to get in to the bunny spirit, you need to go look at Vanessa Lewis' RABBITS board. When I found it my heart did little cartwheels and I could hardly breathe.
I've been having a really hard time keeping this 'Easter bunny' thing going with the boys. How the heck do you convince kids that the bunny of mystery is real when there are Easter eggs all over every shop since like February? I'll tell you how parents - pull your chairs in closer. I told Noah that the Easter bunny only brings the special 'real' eggs to the gardens of the good little boys and girls. For the boys and girls that aren't so good - they have to buy their eggs at the shops. The end. However, I told Noah that the Easter eggs at the shops are not real and are 'pretend' eggs, but he is VERY familiar with our local shop's selection. So now I have to go somewhere where we never shop to get treats that he's never seen. I am totally the Easter bunny right now.
In all bunny-ness, we have different beliefs at home, but we are leaving it to the boys to find their own way in terms of spirituality and religion. I am spending their baby years teaching them good values and talking to them about different ways of life. There are certain decisions that I'd like them to make on their own. Of course they know about God, but I have not asked them which God or religion to follow or believe in. Right now, Easter is about chocolate eggs for them. I feel guilty and weird about it sometimes - but this is how we're doing it for now. Things could be different next year, we might bring it in to discussion this weekend but I suspect that we'll wait until the boys are older and able to understand sufficiently. I mean, I can't even get Noah to put pants on some days.
May your Easter be filled with love, appreciation, chocolate, bunnies, sermons, celebration, Pesach, family, gratitude and good food. Whatever it is that your family does to celebrate this week or weekend - may it be filled with joy and togetherness. Mama rabbit - out.
Have you seen these kyooties?
