Rabbit food.

One thing I really love doing is preparing nice healthy meals for my little family. We are a family of rabbits and snackers. We don't often do big sit-down meals. We like to pick and nibble and graze I guess. There are certain foods that are almost always in our home. Ingredients that you can make so many easy little meals from. Foods that we all love. We don't eat a lot of meat, as we just really don't like it all that much. Sure we love a good braai now and then but we maybe eat a meal with meat in it like... Once a week if even. It's not really an ethical choice, it's just a preference in diet I suppose.

Foods that are always at our house are: Ina Paarman's: Basil or tomato pesto / honey and soy sauce / pasta sauce / honey and mustard low fat dressing. Then we have plain yoghurts, cheddar, parmesan, herbs (rocket, basil) and lettuce. Loads of salad ingredients, avos and hummus. Pasta, frozen pizza bases, rotis and wraps and a seeded loaf / rye bread. Frozen chopped vegetables (to quickly add to pastas), beans, sprouts, chickpeas and a selection of fresh veg / stiry fry mix for the week. Peanut butter, bananas, apples. Butternut. Sweet potato. Minute steaks. Hot chocolate. Marshmellows. Home made iced tea and a stash of num-nums for the boys (and naughty mommies). That's our grocery list right there.

Last night was just an ordinary dinner, but I like being ordinary. The boys love fruit, veg, hummus, beans and all those nice foods that are nice for you. Last night I just made a wrap and a mielie and shared it between them. A wrap / roti with herbs, tomato, sprouts, chickpeas, avo and salad dressing. I've started sprinkling parmesan over hot mielies, and last night I just cut some apple slices up to add more fresh to the meal.

I love how healthy my boys are. I love that they love the same foods we do, and I hope that these eating habits will follow them in to adulthood. Don't get me wrong... They eat a lot of chocolate / biscuits / milkshake etc, but man... What's a chocolate now and then when my boys eat bean sprouts and seeds with happy faces? Wraps are so easy and quick to make - No cooking required and they're fun and messy for toddlers to eat. Noah is totally loving his bunny plate that I got at Design Indaba this year. I need more of them!
