This is one of our favourite places that we've stayed at in South Africa. This 4 star luxury lodge in Cape Town, Hout Bay offers single, double and family suites with patios overlooking the mountains and beautifully landscaped gardens. This gorgeous B & B is situated just 20 minutes from Cape Town, and is worlds away from the busy city. We felt so relaxed and at home at Tarragona.
The lodge is very homey. It's like a really big house that you (and the kids) can explore. It's charming and warm, friendly and beautiful. Suites are situated downstairs with a pool, a lounge area, patio furniture, board games, activities and toys for the kids. We played swing ball and cricket with the kids on the expansive lawns. There is loads of room to run and play to keep little boys active. The lodge is packed with interesting artwork, artifacts, board games, books and the latest magazines. When you go upstairs you'll find a fireplace, more lounges, books, chess, pictionary and their 'honesty bar'. You can help yourself to a port, wine, whiskey and all the regular bar fare or juices for the kids. You write down what you had according to your room number and settle on check-out.
Breakfast was superb with an intimate dining area overlooking the valley, serving a mixture of cold and hot breakfast foods. Everything from camembert to croissants to pork sausages and scrambled eggs. You could help yourself to coffee and juices - it really was like one big family homw. The hostess, Lillian is particularly lovely. She chatted and played with the boys, set up games for them, was friendly with us and made our whole family feel incredibly welcome. It was really just so relaxing, especially with kids!
On Saturday night we got some take-out, grabbed some port and juices from the upstairs bar and brought it all to our room. We read books on all the different types of birds with the boys, played scrabble, battleships and had some really special family time. Honestly - if you're traveling to Cape Town (especially for extended stays) you will love staying here and feel so comfortable and at home. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook - and see their rates on the Tarragona website here.
