I want to tell you a story that is so important to you that you'll never forget it.

Once upon a time, in a beautiful country called South Africa, lived hundreds and thousands of hungry school children. They traveled far and wide, eager for a better future and the ultimate treasure of an education. Their families made many sacrifices for uniforms, books, transport, stationery, school bags and shoe polish to get them there. In South Africa, poverty is a reality that you don't quite understand until you've walked amongst the children most affected by it. In this beautiful country, 1 in 5 children go to school without having breakfast. Their parents are not able to provide a meal before they make their way to their classrooms to receive knowledge that is often missed during the distraction of hunger, lack of energy and nutrition.

In this faraway land of South Africa lives a mighty brand called Kellogg's. With a need too pleading and urgent to turn away from, they gathered in their castles and met with the Kings of other lands called Parmalat and FoodBank SA and devised a beautiful and perfect plan to benefit our youth - our future. They gathered all their soldiers, created a mighty army and set out to corners far and vast to combat the enemy, the plague: hunger.

Throughout the year of 2014, Kellogg's will travel to 4 provinces (Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape) and reach 56 schools. They will feed over 25 000 children daily. They will provide 5 million breakfasts. 150 000 kg of cereal. 500 000 litres of Parmalat milk all distributed by FoodBank SA. All the King's Horses and all the King's Men have come together to provide Breakfast for Better Days #KelloggsBFBD

I have eagerly joined this project and will be following their initiative throughout the year. I am a BFBD soldier and you can be too. Look out for the promotional packs (with the big red spoon) of Kellogg's cereal in store. Each box of cereal purchased provides one bowl of cereal to a hungry child. While Kellogg's has already committed to this life-changing task, this is your way to get involved, and to involve your family too! All your favorites are included: Rice Crispies, All Bran Flakes, Coco Pops and Kellogg's Corn Flakes. Follow the story, see pictures and documentary snippets of the kids; and pledge yourself over at Kelloggs.co.za. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter and feed our hash tag #KelloggsBFBD so that we can get more South Africans on board and create awareness for these children.

Our first visit was at Ikwezi Primary in Soweto. Currently these children receive a cup of watery maize-like porridge as a meal. No fairy tale is complete without pictures. Look what happens after a bowl of Kellogg's Corn Flakes and loads of calcium-rich Parmalat milk. I am honored that I got to spend the day with these beautiful, eager little hearts. A huge congratulations to Kellogg's for assisting to solve such an urgent and pivotal problem in our country, and thank you for allowing us to contribute.
