This was one of my favorite birthdays ever because it contained all my favorite things: Bunnies, presents, friends, family, cocktails, cake, our home and a party. Grays took me to the Cape Rabbit Show on Saturday and we got to see so many breeds. I've been researching various rabbit things and I am really getting in to it - to the point where I'd like to get quite serious about bunnies. We have two Himalayan Jersey Woollies (Charlie and Lola) at the moment. At the Cape Rabbit Club I completely fell for a pedigree Magpie buck. He is the sweetest little kit (baby bunny) that you've ever seen, but man alive he's going to get big. I really wanted to name this little guy Nesquick, but next year I want to get a New Zealand Red or a Tri-Coloured Dutch (brown in color) so that name is reserved for him! I'd like you to meet the latest addition to the Bunny House: Roger.
I named him Roger because my dad calls all rabbits 'rogers' and it really suits him. Maybe not right now as much as in three months time because this guy is going to be quite heavy when all grown up. He is so tame, affectionate and sweet. You can just squish him all over your face and kiss and nuzzle him all day (I do). He was binking all over the garden all weekend - too precious. He sits on my lap while I work, watch a movie or read a book. He looks for us when we're not around and he is terrified of Charlie and Lola who are also bucks. We'll need to get Charlie neutered because his need for dominance is seriously overriding his social skills at the moment. It's a problem. Our new little bun sleeps inside in the boys room in in ours and even puts himself to bed in the areas we created for him. I'm so in love guys.
So on Sunday afternoon we tidied up the house (shoved all the mess in to cupboards) and had a few friends over for a cake & cocktail afternoon. We also made boerie rolls, but that doesn't sound as nice as 'cake & cocktails' now does it? Because our Jersey Woollies had dug up (read: destroyed) our entire garden, we've dug it all up; put sand down and lay paving stones and river pebbles in to the space instead. It looks and works much better, despite Charlie's foot stomps. Bunnies thump their back legs for various reasons. When Lola is afraid or hears a loud noise outside, he'll stand still and stomp his back leg repeatedly to warn us of a possible threat. Charlie does this when he is seriously angry, which is pretty often. He stomped all over the garden when he saw the pavers, but he's settled in nicely now. We're also getting him a little sandpit because we've discovered how much he loves rolling around in the bits of sand that aren't covered yet. Our plants still need to be placed on tables because our bunnies are full of mischief.
We swapped bedrooms with the boys recently because the back room (where we are now) is much colder. Our house was built in 1925 and it's hollow beneath its wooden floors. In winter all the cold air pulls up, which is not ideal for growing boys. Also, the boys had twice the amount of cupboard space that we do. So we swapped. We were going to cover the candy stripes that we painted for their 'earth' room last year. Graeme added one single branch to the stripes which creates the illusion of trees, so I quite like it now. We've been doing little house things lately like it took us half the day and 2 breaks to put up a shelf in the kitchen. This is not called DIY, this is called putting up a shelf. DIY stands for Do It Yourself and if you're calling builders or a handyman in to put up a shelf, well then you should probably buy a drill and save yourself lots of money.
On Sunday I bought a few cakes and made my famous cocktails that everyone raved about. The best cocktail recipe in the world contains: Triple Sec, vodka, Red Bull, berry juice, orange juice and freshly cut pineapple, mint, lemon wedges and strawberries. Serve with loads of ice and fun straws. The guys had beers going and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all our beautiful friends (new and old) for coming through. We sort of gave the boys away to family for the afternoon so that we could focus on our friends (and have a few cocktails) because we really just don't create enough time for our friends. We've become very house-bound, although that's also slowly changing with our themed dinner parties and double dates. Two couples that we're close to have just moved here from Joburg, and it's so great for us to have more close friends in town. Thank you to everyyyyone for coming, I wish I got photos of everyone with Roger, but things did get a little bit erm, busy. I don't know how we fit so many people in to our little house, but it was fun. Thanks Caroline, Nick, Tyler, Karen, Gareth, Corban, James, Robin, Candice, James, Bibi, Tash, Jacqui, Sam, Kenneth and Renee & Lain. I love you all more than I could ever say. Graeme you helped me more than all the moons and all the dinosaurs like the whole world.

Roger & Lola |
I received the most thoughtful and sentimental gifts. Bibi painted a bunny for me (she studied Fine Arts and is crazy artistic) Jacqui makes toys and dolls by hand and stitched the sweetest little rabbit doll together for me. She hand made a card that I'll never be able to eat (can't explain) and everyone bought me flowers, ceramics or rabbit things in some shape or form. I love alllll of youuuu so freakin much guys.
Thanks for the best birthday with all my favorite things. On Monday I ate a whole 2 tier chocolate cake on my OWN and Graeme made me my favorite dish: His signature spaghetti and meatballs with double napoletana sauce and extra basil. We all cuddled in to the lounge, took turns loving Roger and enjoyed being a little family together. It was a good day and I'm glad that I've saved it here to remember. We really need to cherish the good times while we're young, fortunate and in good health -surrounded by love and kindness. Thank you for being such good people, with such good hearts. You are appreciated and we love you (almost as much as I love Roger but let's not be ridiculous).
I received a few pictures, e-cards, photos and other special online things from friends far away and from internet friendships in general. More love for Mama Rabbit on her Bunnyday. Thank you.

Thank you for making my day so special, and for being so thoughtful and awesome in general. If anyone's looking for me, I'll be off cuddling this little guy with a heart full of post birthday happy.
