The Invitation |
Last Friday,
Susana Kennedy (of 2Oceans Vibe fame and a close friend) and I were invited to a really special and informative lunch at the Table Bay Hotel. Thank so so much to
Good Housekeeping Magazine for the wonderful afternoon. I wore my beautiful dress from
Ruche that I got from New York a few weeks ago. While it was a very glamorous event filled with luxury, giveaways, (unbelievable) goody bags and royal treatment, there was also a very serious, REAL message to be heard: Save Your Heart. Please go donate your heartbeats on the Flora Strong Heart website
here. Also like them
here and get involved. These images a mix of mine, Susana's and some from the team at Good Housekeeping.

The Dining Room - Banqueting. There were only 150 ladies invited, it was so special to be there and so beautiful |

My darling friend Susana getting her make up done at the Clarins section. It was such a treat. |
 |
There was a gorgeous little GHD section and we could all get hair touch-ups done. I had my fringe done in a 'Jessica Rabbit' |
 |
Clicks had a mini clinic set up with experts that took our blood pressure and body mass index to see if we are at risk of cardiovascular disease. |
 |
Clicks was there checking all our blood pressure and BMI. Sus and I were not fans of getting on the scale, but we're perfectly perfect in weight & height! |
 |
The main attraction - Flora, thank you for such an informative afternoon and raising awareness with the Heart and Stoke Foundation |

A very pretty seating area for the panelists / Flora Ambassadors |

Please hop on over to the
Think Red website. It's FILLED with information on your current risk, symptoms, and seven really simple steps to avoid this horrible, completely preventable epidemic. You know they said that if you had to calculate according to population and did a comparison, South African women are more prone to heart / cholesterol related problems than American women. I know, I couldn't believe it either.
"Over 17.5 million deaths are caused by Cardiovascular Disease every year (twice as many caused by Cancer), and it is projected that this figure will rise to 20 million by 2020 and 24 million by 2030. Yet 80% of these deaths are preventable with diet and lifestyle changes.” -Dr Vash Mungal-Singh, CEO of Heart and Stroke Foundation
Dubbed ‘Africa’s hidden epidemic’, Cardiovascular Disease is likely to cause more deaths in Africa than AIDS, TB or malaria
I am going to do everything that I can to promote a healthy, active lifestyle for my family with a healthy, balanced diet. I think that everyone that reads this blog should pop in to their nearest clinic, Clicks or doctor and get your cholesterol tested. Before if affects your family. By the way, it does affect one in every four women in South Africa and one in every three men. So yes, that means drag your husband / boyfriend / best friend with you and do not stop until all your friends and family is tested. Read more about the event, and more pictures
here.
You could save a life.
