Cape Town Festival of Beer 2012 and the Blogger Brew Challenge

Guys. I have to tell you. I'm part of the 2012 Blogger Brew Challenge along with other TOP South African Bloggers. We've all been given a really cool starter brewery kit, and last week we were invited to The College of Beer where I met up with a bunch of cool media folk and bloggers. I am *not* a beer person, I really do prefer wine, but we tasted thirteen different lagers, ales etc and paired them with great foods like salmon, steaks etc. Matt (Curate this Space) is VERY clued up on the beer brewing process and he was super interesting to talk to about the process, adding flavour, what not to do, when to bottle etc.

I (and by "I", please know that I mean "Graeme") started the brewing process two Sundays ago. After all the tasting I can tell you that I am definitely adding honey or cherries to mine. I am also going to make more of a light, cider-ish kind of beer.

Although I am not a beer person, I have to tell every gal out there about Kriek Lambic, a Belgian beer made from sour cherries. It's red and awesome and tastes like cherry cider. I want to make something exactly like that, so here's to hoping. I'm getting my bottles from Dan today and tonight we'll be capping our first batch. So exciting! Follow the conversation with the tag #CTFOB and follow them on @ctfestofbeer and on  the facebook here. Read more on the challenge on Bangers and Nash here

PS I really need a name for our brew. And we need to design a label. AND I'll be giving away free tickets to Cape Town's Festival of Beer ( happening from 23 to 25 November). My blog has totally gained street cred with the husband. I'm very popular at home right now.
