This weekend was so relaxing. I didn't go anywhere or do a darn thing, which is exactly what I wanted. I didn't care how warm that sun shined here on Saturday. I love my home and fiddling and creating pretty corners and hanging with the kids. I enjoy making healthy meals and sitting on the porch watching the rabbits (Charlie and Lola) bugger around, doing rabbit-things. I ended up taking a few photos on my wanderings, and some things that I thought were just amusing. Benjamin had selected a car and a train of his that he felt needed a shower. I like taking pictures of silly things like that to remember their little quirks. Here are a few snapshots from our home.
That wannabe ball and claw cupboard is from Gumtree - I got it ages ago for like nothing. Same with the red chair. That little wooden fella is The Sitting Lamp by my husband - Graeme Bettles - you get them here. Other little bits and bobs I got at the Bay Harbour Market (Hout Bay) and the Milnerton Market - I think they're only open on Sundays. That cushion is from Design Kist and she has loads of LOVELY things, you must go have a look here. I got the bunny ceramic and the brown wall clock from 5Rooms, they are having a really silly sale right now, go look here. That handsome chap in that black & white picture is my dad at a younger age. I love that photo so much.
Chicken is our hamster and he lives on the mantle. After the boys are in bed, and I'm writing or fiddling, then I take him out and we chill on the couch. On Friday night, I forgot that he was out and about until I felt him *crawl* up my jersey sleeve. The boys were asleep, and were spared from my panic attack / swearing fest that ensued. No hamsters were harmed during my moment of extreme terror.
I love ceramics. Those bunny egg cup holder thingies are from Clay Cafe in Hout Bay. You can choose all sorts of different, raw ceramics and then sit and paint them there. They give you everything. I painted those, then fetched them a week later once they'd been in the special oven where ceramics go to be cool forever. Go see how to get there here. Don't say I don't ever tell you about cool things.
This is my tea-making station. I got those words from the Bay Harbour Market (Hout Bay) to spell out my very favorite household phrase. We designed our couches to look like old retro (Mad Men) ones and had a dude make them for us. His name is Lionel and you can call him 084 9416 719. We paid like three thousand rands for that big three seater. The fabric is from Hertex. The birdie and the green leafy cushions are Skinny Laminx and we got those from Vamp in Woodstock. They have the best things.
I love our bathroom. I love the checkered black and white and I love Ben's train and car toys just chilling in there. My favorite of course is that the ceiling / roof has sky lights. It is SO nice laying in the tub when it rains or just looking at the clouds on clear days. There are a lot of cats in Observatory and once once walked 'over' the skylight and I really got the biggest fright. Can you imagine? I really do scare easily.
We are still working on the boys' room, and I got some really nice paint from Plascon. They have so many good ideas for rooms and colors on the Trends Site. You must go have a look if you want to make changes around your home. Again, the cushion from the very nice Kirsten at Design Kist.
I won an online voucher for Wellness Warehouse via Natalie's blog a few weeks ago. I chose this little food chopper and I'm just addicted. I wander around the fridge looking for things to 'zap'. It uses to electricity - you just pull the handle and it goes all choppy on your stuff. On Sunday I made a nice toast-topping of avo, tomato, lemon juice and carrots. This chopper also comes with a tupperware lid, so if you don't finish your mixture, then you just pop the lid on and gooi it in the fridge. I made Benjamin a little lunch of wholewheat bread with this avo mix. Cucumber chips, dried mango cheeks, sliced apple and a few almonds. We don't eat a lot of meat at home, because well... Rabbits just wouldn't. That ceramic bunny plate is from Cath Price ceramics. I also have a milk jug of hers where it's a rabbit instead of a handle. It's too special to use. She has the most beautiful quirky ceramics for your home. Go look here, a post by Handsome Things.
I buy a lot of frozen pizza bases from Pick n Pay. They're great to keep for quick meals. On Sunday I made pizzas with avo, feta, banana, rocket, mozzarella and dried cranberries. We brought the TV in (we don't keep a television in the living room and we don't even have access to any channels - sabc, mnet etc) to the lounge and we pulled the boys' mattresses in and made a big family bed. We hung out and watched The Fantastic Mr Fox which is my new favorite movie ever made - the boys loved it. You CANNOT go wrong with Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl. You just can't. Watch the trailer here. It's pretty old, I'm just not good at this whole keeping up with the times thing. So we just ate pizzas, then chocolate (could not resist the Cadbury Bubbly thing any longer!) and lay on our xmas bed watching this beautifully art directed movie. Noah loved it! - "Remember, always kill a chicken with just one bite". My best! Thanks Vanessa!
I love this boy's little face. Noah is not 'letting' me take pictures of him at the moment. Only videos. That boy is such a little actor. I have hundreds of clips of him talking, dancing and reciting new things that he's learnt, but like, no photos. And that is bunny's little plate of pizza. Banana, feta, rocket, tomato... MMMM. Even Pooh Bear is keen. I hope that everyone that reads this blog had the very nicest weekend too.
