Oprah Magazine has been in South Africa for TEN YEARS now. To celebrate, they hosted a little lunch. By lunch I mean booked out a dining hall at the super fancy Table Bay Hotel. In true Oprah style, the lunch was filled with special guests, amazing performances, glamor, great taste, surprises, love, inspiration and a wonderfully extravagant birthday cake!
Guests were welcomed with a glass of bubbly or juice and were gestured to an open 'pampering' room with an Elizabeth Arden makeup stand and artist for touch-ups. There was a loooong table to grab a quick Sally Hansen manicure or you could stop over for a nice massage from the Camelot Spa section. No really. You walked in to a room where someone handed you a glass of wine, a manicure, make up artist and a massage. Then there was lunch and speeches and beautifully plated food, performances and cake.
I loved all of it. There was so much attention to detail. I loved Jane Raphaely's story on how she flew to New York City and met with Oprah to try convince her to bring her magazine to South Africa. The speeches were very special, the giveaways were very exciting. I had chills when the girls from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy sang. I was bouncing in my seat when the nice looking boys over at D-Seven performed.
I met a few lovely girls and took home the best goodie bag that your face has ever seen. I'm talking Elizabeth Arden, Dentyne, Le Creuset, Carrol Boyes, GHD, Books and a whole lot more that I will talk more about another day, as I get to use all my nice new things. I need to find out what brand of chocolate was in that bag so I can get more. That whole bag of chocolate lasted all of two days in my house and there is no packaging to speak of.
I was so honored to be invited and to meet the super nice team from the magazine too. I did a little interview with All Access which was really cool. I am a lot more comfortable with cameras, microphones and boom swingers now than I was a few months ago. Also, the glass of wine that I guzzled sipped politely also helped. What a wonderful day! Thanks to everyone involved for being consistently awesome.
