One of Noah's third birthday presents was a wallet. A nice little Winnie The Pooh wallet. It really is a gift that just keeps on giving, and I haven't seen him as excited about any other possession before.
Noah does little chores around the house, and a few extra little things. Then he gets a nice five rands or so. By chores I mean tidying the garden, packing his bikes neatly beneath the slide, tidying his room and folding things away. Sure, a kid should do these chores on their own, without financial reward -and he used to. I'm just trying to get the message across here. Money is not free, and you need to work for nice things that you would like to buy for yourself.
Noah is SO PROUD when he gets his silver, and hurriedly puts it in his wallet for safe keeping. Now and then we walk down to the local shop / kaffie, and he runs to get his wallet so he can buy him and Ben a num-num. He insists on getting something for Ben too. Doesn't that just break your little heart?
He picks things out himself (fizzers, wine gums, suckers) and pays for it himself. The dude at the shop knows him already and will tell him if he does or does not have enough money for something. It's too sweet, they enjoy him so much. He knows that when his money is finished, it is done and he is totally mature about the whole thing.
On Saturday he bought himself and his little brother an ice cream and he was so proud of the whole thing, I just had to take a picture. How awesome is this child? I like him SO MUCH. You know, you naturally love your children, but right now, I really just like him too, you know? Like all I want to do is hang out with him and teach him cool things and do silly things together. Thanks Noah, you're a really amazing little dude with a killer sense of humor too.
