Excited-NESS

Graeme and I are planning a Holiday. We didn't get a break over Christmas as we had a newborn and I outright refused any visitors or guests, no matter how good their intentions. I told family "I love you, but please don't come near our house over the festive season". And I promised to make it up to everyone over Easter. And like true Valies, we are going to Durban.
Well Graeme and I are from little towns/villages in Zululand that you definitely don't know of, that are situated about 180km from Durban -but close enough.

I am so excited to get away. We are already arguing over where we are going first, who to visit and which room we're taking at which house and whether we should drive or fly. I really don't want to go to the airport with two carseats, pram, camp cot, bumbo chair and nappy bags. I just don't. I would also rather eat my own vomit than have Noah on my lap in a plane again. Really.
I think it works best to leave at like 3am, and the kids can sleep for the bulk of the trip. By the time they wake up at like 7:30am it will be breakfast and novelty-phase and maybe they won't notice that they are strapped to a chair that much. Ten points to me if I can get them to fall asleep in their seats the night before. In the car. Lol. Ok no I wouldn't do that.

I am a small-town girl at heart. I am so excited to see sugarcane and the ocean. I can't wait to get sunburned and to swallow sea-water by mistake. I can't wait to pay R5 for a big bag of avos or mangoes. Ice cream, humidity, sunblock, frizzy hair, cold showers, chocolate eggs, cosmopolitans with umbrellas, harbors, ships, cooler boxes, body boards, joe cool's, naval island, Hluhluwe game reserve, the peer, beach bars and pool tables, kids on bicycles, cattle on the streets and dolphin shows. Me, next month -all of that.

Someone is just really going to have to control me & my dad. Him and I do silly things. Like when we went on a game drive, for a whole day, but we drank so much beer we didn't see a damn thing. Like maybe a zebra. Because yes, we have those in Zululand.

  1. Hmmm, your small town in Zululand sounds suspiciously close to where I live - Empangeni. Maybe I'll bump into you at Naval.. ;-) Love your blog!

  3. Good luck for the drive! I did one loong trip in the car & a flight with my toddler and will be flying to Cape Town next week again and frankly I'd rather eat my own vomit than do either! So not looking forward to it!

  4. Awesome, I'm so envious now. The last time we went on holiday was in February 2009!!! Really need to take a break very soon.

Enjoy every moment and do all those silly things that you were talking about, but take pictures so we can see the zebra too!

  5. I live in JHB and I hate it more than the cricket. Really. If I don't get out of the city at least once a year, I go a bit mental. And I go a bit mental at least once a week as it is xx
